If you have been away from math for a long time, or just plain struggle with math, this book is what you need. The book starts with basic math and goes all the way through Algebra. I am going through the entire book, and I love it. The author explains each topic in a way that is very easy to understand. I also like that there is a little review in each lesson so that you don’t forget what you have learned. The free online videos are great. The videos thoroughly prepare you for each exercise in the book. This book, combined with the video tutorials, takes a subject that always seemed complicated to me and breaks it down into simple terms. A great refresher for those with a math phobia! I highly recommend this book.

  2. Alla

Great book! It starts with basic math and works all the way through Algebra. The lessons are short and easy to understand. A detailed table of contents makes it easy to find a specific topic and brush up on it. The videos are a big plus. It’s just like having a personal tutor. If your math skills are lacking, this book will get you right back on track. No fluff. It gets right down to business.

  3. dkm

I’m glad I bought this book!

This book is going to really help me help my child with math. I thought helping him out with homework would be a piece of cake, however I forgot how much I no longer remember about math.

I found this book laid out very well to help give me a good refresher course after so many years.

  4. Juanita A

    Good for relearning

  5. ROCKMAN

This is a good math refresher book with many practice problems, but to say its for adults is misleading.
Most of the practice problems can be solved by students at the JHS level.

  6. Melissa Bergacker

Great book to refresh your math skills.

  7. Bart j. Carlisle

I sent it to my Son to help refresh before a school entrance exam

  8. michelle

    Helped alot

  9. Andreeva

My math skills are very weak in the first place, and I felt really rusty. This is an issue because I am a home schooling mom. This book become available at the perfect time! I stumbled upon it because my kids are currently using the Math Essentials books. This refresher provides short lessons on hundreds of math topics from elementary through algebra. Just as described in the book, “Short, sweet, and to the Point”. Be sure to use the videos that are included. You work right along  with the instructor, and you can replay if need be. I am a visual learner so the videos helped me a lot. I highly recommend this book!

  10. Betty R.

Mostly I’m enjoying this challenge. I haven’t been able to access the on line videos and this is a disappointment. When stuck, I’m trying to get my answers from Khan Academy…..

  11. cardia spence

In good condition great online videos too

  12. moses cano

Very easy to dive into. Includes access to very helpful videos, that are almost like having a math tutor.

  13. Carol

Very happy with this product as a general math review.

  14. Julie Lagoy

I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The layout of the book is great, starting with simple math problems and gradually becoming more difficult. There’s plenty of problems to work through to truly grasp comprehension. And there’s a link to video tutorials to aid with understanding. I am very much enjoying this workbook.

  15. Lisa S.Andrews

Good book if you been out of school for years

  16. Lori A Thibault

    Great books for a refresher

  17. Kailey

I am an adult re-entering the college world and I was going to have to take a placement test. I was never good at Math growing up so naturally I was scared to take a placement test and fail horribly. I bought this book and I can honestly say it is one of the best decisions I ever made in school. Not only did I not fail my placement test, I scored high enough in the Math portion that I did not have to even take a remedial math course-this is huge for someone like me who hasn’t done Math in ten years and used to cry when I did Math homework because I just did not get it.

The learning is easy with this book. Simply go to the website it lists in the front of the book and follow the links on the site to view the free videos that go with each lesson in the book.

I actually enjoyed sitting down each day to do my lessons because I finally GOT IT. Professor Fisher explains Math problems in a way that is simple and easy to understand. I never had experience with someone teaching Math in a way that I was able to understand and I am so thankful to him for being able to say that I like Math now and am good at it!

  18. DICKS

This book put me right back where I needed to be the refresher book it’s the truth I recommend this book if you get stuck with any kind of math problems

  19. Rhonda E

Great practice exercises for brushing up on your Math skills. I have always been a good student and earned A’s and B’s in Math. However I have learned that I didn’t always have a good instructor. They left a lot of things out. At 50, I will be returning to school. Nursing requires exceptional math skills and I want to be ready. Don’t want to get dosage calculations wrong. I want to heal people not kill them. This book has restored my confidence with Math. I gave product 4 instead of 5 because lessons bounced around. Maybe that’s by design.

  20. dchem

The problems are well designed and increase in difficulty. Its well written

  21. KristinaZ

This is exactly what I wanted. A lot of exercises for every theme with online explanations

  22. sunflower70

Not a teaching or how to work problems so much. Book is filled with problems to work, answers in back. So, if you need to re-learn again, not just work problems, you may not like book.

  23. Rob D

This refresher book came in handy

  24. marshall mashke

This book did just what i was looking for! I was having trouble remembering some basic math principles, and this book was a great help!

  25. channa981

Where do I begin? This is a must have, I failed the Florida teacher certification exam math subtest! And I ordered this book after, this book is very detailed and precise, it has an extensive glossary in the back that introduces you to all the math terminology that one needs to know, this book has lots of math problems, that covers much of what I need geometry algebra, pemdas, it is worth every penny & then some, and does have examples and hints on each page.

  26. Janice M. Fisher

I really enjoy using this product, especially the step-by-step procedures along with the explanation. Thank you.

  27. M. Shalayda

I’m really enjoying working through this book so far. I bought it as a supplementary book for more math problems and I wasn’t let down. It has instructions on how to complete the problems it gives if you’re reteaching yourself. I would definitely recommend it.

  28. Carol A. Ambrose

Math refresher book wasn’t helpful for me.
I wanted a textbook with instructions solving math problems in a simple textbook fashion.

  29. Rebel G.

I waited to review this book until after I finished it so I could see how everything went. I purchased this book because I’m going to be starting school again and I was really concerned about doing College Algebra. It’s been so long since I’ve been in school and math is one of my harder subjects as I mix up numbers and can’t remember how to do more complex equations.

I loved that this book is very thorough by starting with basic math and progressing to the algebra and geometry portions. This was great as it helped to rebuild my math skills so that by the end of the book I was solving problems with more ease than before I started the book.

I didn’t really use the videos they said we have access to. First, because I didn’t find a video to every lesson, second, if I couldn’t understand the concept being taught I looked up videos on YouTube and found excellent help from there.

Helpful tip: I also found a fractions calculator online that helped me work through a problem if I couldn’t understand where I went wrong.

Each page has review exercises that has problems taught earlier in the book. I liked this as it kept things fresh in my mind for how to solve a problem. Then the page had “Helpful Hints.” This is where it shows the concept you will be working on for that page and how to solve the problem. It’s not super informative, but gives enough that I understood 98% of what was being taught from that section. I only needed outside help from videos a few times. Other than that it was easy to figure out how to complete the problems.

Lastly, there are 10 problems you will solve related to the concept shown in the Helpful Hints section. There is a review after each section in the book that goes over all the previous pages for that particular subject- such as fractions- the review page will have 20 questions related to fractions.

Finally, after the lessons on page 197-224 are addition practice problems you can do for the algebra portion of the book. Each page has 20 problems you can work out to fine tune your skills.

The book ends with a 100 question final that goes over all concepts taught in the book.

I gave 4 stars because there were about 4 pages I ended up not being able to do as I didn’t understand the concept or it wasn’t taught in the book.

Overall, this book was a great resource and I feel it gave me confidence to take the next step in my education. I was so impressed I purchased it for my sister as well.

  30. Cpl I

The book is great. I have not had a math class in over 20 years. It explains things clearly. Gives helpful hints and plenty of practice problems.

  31. Tamia Hairston

    Great book!

  32. doug

Excited to continue re introducing myself to numbers and mathematics. Begins from basic numbers to more complex calcs. Grab this book, get smarter and more comfortable around numbers anywhere.

  33. boombuyer

    Nice back tool

  34. The names PAT not cat

Good review book for just a brush up I guess I wasn’t satisfied with it it wasn’t what I was expecting. Maybe it would have been better for middle school or high school kids maybe as a summer workbook, but not as it’s titled adult refresher. Didn’t have as good explanation of solving problems if that’s what most adults would need to “refresh “ skills in math.

  35. Math Customer

    Great book

  36. jeffey walton

I was debating on purchasing three different workbooks and this one seemed to be focused on exactly what I needed. At 50yrs old I am putting myself back through school and needed a refresher course to help me build up confidence with fractions, pre-algebra, and basic graphing, and after a month I am ready to delve back into more advanced mathmatics. I think, as well, this book would be good for a parent who wants to help their kids with all of the basics to help them thrive when they start algebra and geometry. I’m excited now to delve back into algebra and geometry. Remember it is never too late to learn and advance your mind. Before I leave this earth I plan on bringing as much knowledge as I can with me when i step over into the afterlife. God gave us these minds to learn and grow and I will never stop on this earth until I meet my maker and will continue learning after that. Never let age stop you!

  37. Hope may

This book is amazing! Everything an adult who has been out of school for a long while, would need to refresh their math skills!

  38. Emma Louise Woodhouse

Just needed something to brush up my maths with, and found this book. It’s a really good purchase for any adult wanting to do the same.

  39. meridith mays

I really like the book for starting at the beginning but I’m surprised it does not explain multiplication or division etc. it just gives you practice questions and a hint

  40. Laura W

I’m going back to school soon and wanted to brush up on things.
This takes you from the very basic level in mathematics to more advanced concepts.

  41. Logan Reynolds

    Love it

  42. Annie

    Very thorough

  43. Math Customer

This was a very helpful resource when I was studying for my Praxis exam. It has a lot of practice questions, and helpful tips to remember. There is an answer key in the back as well.

  44. Tracy Anderson

This book is fantastic. I bought it as a supplement for my CBEST studies, as the CBEST study guides did not show you how to do the math problems. This book had everything I needed to know to pass the CBEST math section. It is well written and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs a refresher or needs to relearn math. It is a great prep book for standardized tests.

  45. Nuna

This book is what I was looking. It’s start at the beginning with addition and subtraction and up. I’m excited to finish my career with this book. It’s very helpful and gives you confidence you forget you had. Thank you to the author .

  46. Tiffany Williams

Thought they would show you how to do what you’ve forgotten but it’s just a workbook of math problems to figure out on your own. Very basic math. Like addition

  47. Kyle

This book was amazing for me as someone going back to school for computer science which is very math heavy. It’d been about four years since I’d taken a proper math class and I was terrified. I did this whole book over the summer prior to my placement testing. It was a massive help for me to build up my confidence in mathematics. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to brush up on their skills. Thanks to this book I’m not longer afraid of math.

  48. William

It got me through the Accuplacer placement exam with flying colors. Its been 30 years since my last math class and I worked through this book for about 2 weeks. I placed 2 levels above the last class I took 30 years ago.

The physical book is just a workbook, you watch the accompanying videos on the website then do exercises in the book. No fluff, all business, two thumbs up.

  49. Math Customer

    Great Product

  50. Math Customer

    Good for this one.

  51. Tierra

Perfect work book. THIS IS NOT A TEXT BOOK. The book provides instructions and resources on where to find the instructions and teaching for the book.

This book is great. It is well designed, and easy to read. If you actually go through the book and do all of the problems, it definitely teaches you and helps solidify the math in your brain.

I just wanted a book that has math problems in one place. If I don’t know how to do the math, I look it up. There is no excuse for anyone to complain the book doesn’t tell you how to do it. I know almost anyone buying this has access to the internet. So use your resources, or suck it up.

Don’t let the bad reviews stop you from learning with this awesome book. You’re smart, figure it out.

  52. B

Perfect t refresher and it fits in my purse. Lo e it

  53. Leonor Ramz

    Muy buenas explicaciones y ejercicios

  54. Chippy

Great addition to the family library. Good for anyone wanting to brush up your on math skills.

  55. Math Customer

    Refresher. Going back to college

  56. C. Betts

I just had to make a correction to all the reviews that keep saying there are no instructions or lessons. The lessons are videos done by the author. There is a link to those lessons in the book. We have used several of Richard Fisher’s other books in this series and they have all been very helpful. If you are a non-math person, struggling to get the concepts down and understand them, get his books! (And, NO, I was not compensated for anything.) We paid for every book, and it was money well spent!

  57. Amanda

I am obsessed with Richard’s books! The man is a genius and really knows how to lay everything out to fully understand what your reviewing and learning. I appreciate these books because they helped me be a step ahead of my classes! I am an adult reviewing math for my college classes and they really help and work. I have never ran into a mistake either. I recommend his math books!

  58. KB

I am so happy with my purchase! It’s just the right amount of “refresher”. I haven’t found anything that I dislike about this workbook… a couple of type-o’s here and there, but I nothing that you can’t figure out.

  59. Patrick Harvey

Helps keep a healthy focused mind allowing me to test skills I haven’t used in years.

  60. Frederick Rodgers

    Good book

  61. Crystal Postell

Goes back over skills that you may have forgotten in Math.

  62. Kenneth Bowman

Usage is quality. A great support system

  63. Barnesgirl

I’m going back to college 20 years after my last degree. My last math class was longer ago than that. I used this book right before classes started and I’m currently carrying a perfect grade in trigonometry and a 93% in chemistry.
The only caveat is you need internet access to get the most out of the book. The book works with the author’s website where there are videos teaching how to do the different types of mathematical processes.

  64. Soke

I’m taking a tax course and bought this to freshen up on math 101. I recommend this work book.

  65. Chrissy

Was hoping for a bit more instructional material, but I’ll have to find that elsewhere. Happy with the practice questions. Helps me understand what I remember and can work out and what I need more academic information to understand. Good book overall, happy with my purchase and highly recommend, esp. for parents who need to help their kiddos with math!

  66. Brenda Blacksmith

I bought the book because it offered video support but once I get the book-I learned that the videos provided aren’t for this book in particular. I bought the book to help family. The videos were important to provide assistance when I’m at work. It is a great book but not the video library.

  67. Loreal

I had to purchase this book because as a young student I wasn’t really good at math, so in my twenties I thought this math book would help and of course it did! Which I’m loving but my only question is why are some of the answers wrong; I have a web math calculator on a website and it’s the correct way but the book answers is different! So when you purchase this book yes it’s great but be aware of some wrong answers or ask look up the problem on google or even ask for help🤣!

  68. Jennifer Switek

    Loved it

  69. Douglas A

I wish this had more explanation but it only has the problems.

  70. No name

The book is great, except when i got it the packaging was wet and slimy on one section so the bottom corner of the book is now wet and stained from this.

  71. EMGTECH

Trying to brush up on my math after years of not using it. This book truly help with that. Of you’re someone looking to brush up or prep for an exam. This book is for you.
